Late to the party, but was able to swap the hard drive out for a 500G replacement.
I had trouble finding a big enough media with FAT32 format to backup the data. I tried a 32GIg memory stick, but that was too small. I finally just reformatted a 64Gig USB stick as FAT32 and that worked (Windows won't format FAT32 that large, so I used a utility by AOMEI. It wasn't free, but there might be some free alternatives out there. Don't know what is taking up all that space, but seems as if all will be working well soon. Terraria free xbox. The backup took about 2 and a half hours. Now restoring it, and that's taking another two hours.
